A real mix of housing
Hackensack offers more variety than most of Bergen County: a residential high-rise district along Prospect Avenue, large garden apartment complexes, older two-family neighborhoods, suburban single-family streets and stately older homes on larger lots.
That range makes Hackensack a common starting point for first-time buyers looking at condos or a two-family home, where rent from the second unit can help with the mortgage.
Getting around
NJ Transit's Pascack Valley Line stops at Anderson Street and Essex Street, with service to Hoboken and connections to New York Penn Station through Secaucus Junction. Bus lines run to the Port Authority Bus Terminal and the George Washington Bridge.
Drivers use Route 4, Route 17 and Interstate 80. Hackensack University Medical Center is right in town, on Prospect Avenue.
Before you buy in Hackensack
Condo and high-rise purchases come with association documents and monthly fees to review, and two-family homes need a close look at existing leases and rent. I'll go through both with you before you make an offer.
Every New Jersey purchase also goes through a three-day attorney review. Here's how it works.
